In the reheat stretch blow moulding process, preforms are fed into the machine, heated in an infrared oven to soften the material before blowing the preform to a high pressure hollow container, typically creating a bottle or jar.

Reheat stretch blowers can be either linear or rotary but both use the same process of heating the preform and blowing into the desired bottle shape. The process can be used to manufacture miniature containers to large beer kegs and water containers. The blow moulds themselves are typically manufactured from aluminium, bored through with cooling channels to allow the passage of chilled water and maintain a stable cool temperature and facilitate the formation of the container on contact.
