Remote Machinery Inspections

As you are no doubt aware international travel has been severely disrupted due to the outbreak of COVID – 19 (Coronavirus).

Obviously, this has led to a significant impact on being able to inspect the machines you are interested in buying.

To support our customers, we are pleased to be able to offer some technology based solutions to address this over the coming months.

It is our aim to support our industry as pro-actively as we can. We are committed to facilitate machine sales and keep your manufacturing facilities sourced with the equipment needed to see them through these challenging times.

Where the technology is available to do this, we can:-

* Stream a live machine inspection by video link. This will involve a live stream of the machine being filmed at its current site, directly to the potential buyer. They can instruct the camera operator to view whichever part of the machine they want to see.

* Make sure the sellers’ technicians are present during the live stream to answer any questions the potential buyer has about the machine.

* Provide detailed time and date stamped footage of a pre – recorded inspection, if the machine is on a site where live streaming is not technically possible. Should additional viewing be required this can be done on request and shared accordingly.

Please also be aware, to support you with any subsequent sale, where possible, we will facilitate the dismantling, loading and shipping of the machinery to any global destination.

Please remember that Coronavirus can only survive a maximum of 72 hours on a hard surface so there is practically no risk of it being spread during the transportation process.

There are other options too, deposits to secure a machine could also be effective and we will work with you, as hard we can, to create a solution that works for everyone.

Please contact us to discuss how we can help you.

Thank you

Why aren’t we promoting the environmental benefits generated by the PET industry?

Having been in the PET Industry for several decades, the team here at PET Machinery are starting to feel rather fed up of the scattergun approach of the media in vilifying all plastics. At the moment the climate crisis is high on everyone’s agenda and is something that the team at PET Machinery also feel strongly about. However, in an industry where consciousness around recycling is at the heart of what we do, it feels frustrating when a broad-brush stroke is applied to all plastics.

As a PET equipment specialist for the production of PET containers, we know the benefits that PET offers. This knowledge and experience are in fact, backed up with research that now suggests that PET is infinitely recyclable, generates up to 70% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than other packaging types, requires fewer fossil fuels to produce than aluminium cans, and costs less to transport than glass.
These are qualities that we should be promoting in the defence of the PET Industry, it is in fact one of the greener solutions for containers and packaging.

According to research undertaken by Amcor in the USA, 90% of the PET that goes into recycling bins gets recycled. You may be surprised to hear that only 49% of cans, 40% of glass and 16% of Tetra aseptic boxes get recycled.
So, the question is what else can we do to improve the post-consumer collection of PET plastic and increase its recycling rates further?
Together, the PET Industry needs to find a way to achieve these two objectives, then we will be far closer to being able to stand up and differentiate PET from some of the less “friendly” plastics that are out there.
And most importantly, in doing so we will be able to secure the future of our Industry.

If you would like to hear regular updates from us, latest Industry news and also details around the PET machines that we currently have to sell, then why not connect with us?

We are back!
K-Show 2019, Dusseldorf, Germany

Two weeks ago we had the pleasure of traveling to Germany, to attend K-Show, the world’s number one trade fair for plastics and rubber. An eight day show at Messe, Dusseldorf where exciting industry innovations were presented, hot topics were discussed, and valuable contacts were made.

We would like to thank SIPA for their warm welcome and for permitting us to use their stand as a meeting point for our customers. It was great to meet so many of you there and learn about all of the new opportunities that exist, we will be in touch with everyone soon.
We also caught up with the various agents that we work with regularly, to discuss new and existing sales opportunities.

While we were there, new sales opportunities were discussed to find various used Husky HyPET 300 and HyPET 400 preform systems as well as Sidel Universal or newer blow moulding machines. With this in mind, if you’re evaluating to dispose of such machinery (or any other machinery for that matter), do not hesitate to contact us in order to receive a free machine valuation.

We were also given initial information of used machinery that our customers are looking to sell, so keep an eye out for more details on our weekly newsletter. If you haven’t signed up and would like to receive a copy, visit the following link: https://www.petmachinery.com/lets-connect/

What we learnt at K-Show 2019:

Due to the new European law to prevent closure waste, various companies have now come up with tethered cap solutions, increasing the number of closures that are collected and recycled.
Contact us if you are in the market for such a closure mould, we can help!

There was a lot of buzz around circular economy, with many manufacturers putting onus on sustainability. Don’t miss our upcoming blog post about our thoughts on that.

Evolution rather than innovation in machinery, with less energy consumption and faster cycle times being the focus for the most recent changes.

Hot topics discussed around PHA/PLA bioplastics and also polymer chain degradation, we’ll be sharing what we learnt and our thoughts on these in a blog over the coming months.

It was also interesting to see the many single stage offerings at this show as manufacturers move to niche product to deliver profit optimisation.

All in all, we had a very informative and enjoyable trip. There are some brilliant videos and photos from the fair here: https://www.k-online.com/en/Home/K_2019_Live_1 to give you more of an insight.

We’re looking forward to the next one, hope to see you there in 2022!

Why working with PET Machinery.com is a Win/Win situation for buyers and sellers alike…..

For almost three decades it’s been a story of success for PET Machinery, the first to market, identifying the opportunity to sell used PET machinery.

PET machinery’s founder, Anthony Thompson, recaps the story of the first PET machine he sold back in the early 1990s.  ‘It was a Nissei ASB650 – an old contact relay machine being sold by Constar at their UK plant in Sherburn-in-Elmet.   I was told the machine had been stored outside but under tarps at what was ominously called the ‘scrap yard’.  It was a typical August morning, raining heavily, and as I came around the main building was greeted with the sight of several ducks happily paddling around in the pool made by the collapsed tarpaulin.   A base cup applicator stood rusting a few yards away, perch for another duck which promptly flew off, annoyed by our intrusion.  Such was the demand back then for affordable PET bottle making equipment that I immediately agreed the purchase, ducks and all!   The machine itself was cleaned up, tested and subsequently shipped off to Kampala.’

Since that first venture Thompson and his co-director since 2008, Erik van Bommel, have sold machines to around 135 countries.

Thompson continues ‘We have had the satisfaction of helping many start-ups off the ground and many of these are now national or internationally recognised players in the business.   Our relationship with these companies has come full circle as they have now become our suppliers of used equipment.

‘To assist sales where local knowledge is essential, we have appointed agents or on occasion, set up offices in different regions, most notably PETAnkerChile Ltda.’

The internet has definitely changed things for the PET Machinery Industry.  It has become easier for buyers and sellers to connect and many manufacturers, particularly the larger multinationals with lots of potential equipment, have tried to exploit this by posting their own equipment online.  However, as many have discovered, listing the equipment is the easy bit.   Responding to the many (often fruitless) requests for information takes time, especially as many potential buyers require costs for dismantling, loading, packing, shipping, insurance, and subsequent start-up and training. Then comes the price negotiation – often very convoluted and finally, many overseas buyers need to pay via letter of credit or other fiscal means due to exchange rate controls.

“This is where we come in” says Van Bommel “we have been doing this for almost three decades now and have learned a tremendous amount in that time.  We can usually weed out the tyre kickers from the ‘real’ buyers and we can establish the ground rules to manage a smooth sale.

‘Unfortunately, sales margins aren’t what they used to be and typically we work on a tight percentage in order to move machines quickly for the sellers.   We still see many brokers hiking up the prices on equipment, including our own offerings, in the hope that a buyer will come along and pay a premium.  That is not our style.  Our suppliers appreciate that we are actively selling the equipment at close to base cost and of course this also benefits our buyers.  We can be very competitive because we run a very lean business and try in so far as possible to broker machines from Seller to Buyer.’

To further their service offering to the PET Industry and positioning themselves as a uniquely PET reseller, the company has recently invested in the launch of a new website. This extends their services to other dealers or direct sellers via a dedicated area of the site where dealers can add their equipment for sale, for free and take advantage of their sophisticated digital marketing tools to showcase their machines to a wider market.

Van Bommel comments ‘Our database is comprised of customers who have actually dealt with us in one way or another over the years and is constantly updated to ensure all the data is real.   So, it is a very valuable resource to us. The recent GDPR requirements allowed us to re-engage with clients old and new to establish whether they wished to remain on our database and as such receive our regular emails flyers. Nearly all respondents confirmed to remain which was very pleasing.’

It’s a win/win situation with the sellers benefiting from a professional marketing process and customers being assured they are dealing with an established and reputable brand in terms of reliability, investment control and logistics to ensure as safe a transaction as possible.
